PELEP work is focused on alleviating poverty and empowering women through social economic activities. The Organization's economic empowerment focus was inspired by the need to create a solution enabling access to finance for Women running businesses. The exclusion of this women is due to cultural structures, as well as stringent conditions in accessing credit from formal finance service providers. Pelep provides tailor made solutions aimed at financing women in business across various sectors.

PELEP works with organized Self-help groups(SHG’s). Through enabling women to create a pool of funds, where group members can access both short(advances) and long term loans under table banking principles with flexible and friendly rates with simple borrowing procedures.

Table banking is an activity which the women engage in, but few understand the workings of interest and are therefore unable to reap from its full potential and demand accountability from their leaders. PELEP’s programme trains the women on table banking principles, as well as boosting the table banking kitty.  

In the past eight years, PELEP has been able to mobilize over 300 groups of women totaling more than 10,000 members with a revolving fund of over USD 600,000.
